Re: Proof that secondhand smoke is harmless
Thu, May 6, 2004 - 12:12 AM"lies here" seems very appropriate.
However, that aside, I like knowing that if I go to a bar these days, I don't immediately need to shower and do laundry due to the "harmless" second-hand smoke that has infested my clothing and settled in my pores.
I recognize that, perhaps, some of the health risks of smoke may be overblown. But the fact of the matter is that I don't care. I'm a non-smoker for all kinds of reasons, but the invasive social aspect of smoke is one that McFadden doesn't seem to get into.
On the other hand, who cares? This tribe is for non-smokers, just like there are at least 2 tribes for smokers. If you promise not to spread your propoganda here, I promise not to comment on how I think that over time, clove cigarettes start to smell like used diapers, and that, yes, I have seen people get started with cloves and move to regular cigarettes over time.
Sound like a deal? -

My parents recently went to Washington, DC. They told me about a restaurant they went to that was absolutely crammed with smoke. They tried to stick it out because it was late at night and not many eateries were open, but they couldn't.
When hearing them talk about it, I realized I've become so used to the sanity of not having cigarettes in bars & restaurants that I've forgotten that other states don't do this. I mean, scofflaw bars remind me that people smoke in bars, but the idea that people smoke in places that serve food grosses me out and I totally forgot that in other states people DO THAT. BLECCH! -

Thu, May 6, 2004 - 10:27 AMOne of the few things I prefer about living in California as opposed to Europe is the no smoking in restaurant laws in California. -

Re: Proof that secondhand smoke is harmless
Fri, May 7, 2004 - 2:34 PMIf second hand smoke is so harmeless then why do I know so many people who have parents who smoke have more respritory problems than those who dont? I really dont care what that article says.Just because something is in print dosent make it true.Scientist are always arguing about what is harmfull or not.
I know that when I get around people who smoke I get congested and sick, and know the same for many others to.And I know that my family who dont smokes children had never had asthsma and the few who do have children who have asthma.I see this case true in other families.(Im not saying that every child who has asthma is from second hand smoke though).

Re: Proof that secondhand smoke is harmless
Fri, February 11, 2005 - 3:01 PMMy mom smoked when I was growing up. I now have asthma. I'm the only one I know with asthma in my family. Harmless second hand smoke is the culprit as far as I know. So now when I get a whiff of a cigarette I have to hold my breath or leave immediately or I get sick. No question in my mind. My mom used to smoke in the car and in restaurants. I have memories of my early hatred of that habit. She can't smoke now, due to diabetes.
